Albert Young, coal miner, eldest son of William and Catherine Young of Llangynidr Road, Beaufort, enlisted in Blackwood in the 1st Battalion Monmouth Regiment, 28th Division and arrived in France with the battalion in February 1915. Rifleman A Young (2362), whilst serving in the 3rd/1st Monmouthshires, was killed accidentally in Great Britain on 31 March 1916, aged 23 and is buried in the Jerusalem Chapelyard, Woodfieldside with a CWG headstone.
