John T. Williams, of Oakdale, an elementary school teacher, served in the 11th (Service) Battalion (2nd Gwent) South Wales Borderers, part of 115th Brigade, 38th (Welsh) Division. He arrived in France with the battalion in December 1915. In the spring of 1916 the division was in the line at Givenchy, France. Private J Williams (21985) died of wounds on 25 May 1916, aged 29. He lies in Merville Communal Cemetery, France, Nord.

John's mother Georgina Hannah received pay of £7 12s 3d and a gratuity of £4 10s.
