David J. Rees, coal miner, son of David and Naomi Rees of Markham Crescent served in the 9th (Service) Battalion Welsh Regiment, part of 19th (Western) Division. After being wounded he recuperated in Britain before returning to duty. In the late summer of 1917 the division fought in the Third Battle of Ypres. Private D J Rees (202272) died of wounds 24 September 1917, aged 21. He is buried at Rouen, France in Saint Sever Cemetery Extension, a cemetery used by the military hospitals in Rouen.

David's grandmother Mrs Sarah A Knight received pay of £16 19s and 5d. His father David received a gratuity of £3.
